About Synagen
Synagen builds AI copilots for oncologists. We help clinical teams bring together patient information, medical evidence and treatment options when decisions matter most.
We are physicians, AI researchers and engineers working closely with hospitals and oncology care providers. Our goal is to turn advances in AI into reliable software that makes a measurable difference in everyday cancer care.
The role
As VP Engineering, you will build and lead the engineering organisation behind our AI platform. Your mandate is clear: turn product requirements and validated AI concepts into reliable, scalable and maintainable software. You will own engineering delivery, architecture, technical quality and engineering culture while remaining hands-on where it matters.
What you'll do
- Build and lead the engineering organisation.
- Own engineering delivery from architecture through production.
- Turn product requirements into pragmatic technical designs and execution plans.
- Raise the bar for quality, reliability, security and engineering excellence.
- Stay hands-on through architecture, critical implementation and technical leadership.
What you'll bring
- Experience building and leading engineering teams in a fast-moving product company.
- A track record of taking products from prototype to production while scaling engineering teams, processes and technical foundations from early-stage through growth.
- Strong engineering judgement across modern Python-based backend systems, cloud infrastructure, distributed systems and AI-enabled products.
- Experience building and operating LLM or agentic systems in production, including evaluation, guardrails and failure handling.
- You use modern AI coding tools as a core part of your engineering workflow and can effectively review and quality-control AI-generated code.
- Evidence of making fast, high-quality decisions under ambiguity, including deciding what not to build.
- Experience in healthcare, clinical workflows, FHIR, regulated or safety-critical software, or enterprise software deployments is a strong advantage, but not required.
- Excellent written and spoken English. German is a plus, but not required.
What we offer
- End-to-end ownership of engineering, technology and delivery.
- A product used in everyday oncology care, with the opportunity to shape its next stage of growth.
- A small, senior and highly collaborative team of physicians, AI researchers and engineers.
- Competitive compensation, including virtual stock options depending on experience and scope.
- A pragmatic, low-bureaucracy environment with high autonomy and fast decision-making.
- A fast, thoughtful hiring process that respects your time.
We welcome international candidates and run our hiring process in English.

Tell us about one product you helped take from ambiguity to production: what you owned, what you decided not to build and what changed for users. If you’ve built something you’re particularly proud of, we’d love to see it.
