Supportability Engineer

Job Description:

Your impact

Are you an engineer with a passion for solving complex technical challenges and supporting cutting-edge defence technology throughout its operational lifecycle?

We have an exciting opportunity for a Product Support Engineer to join our highly skilled team within the Customer Support and Service Solutions  (CS3) Line of Business, providing vital technical support for some of the world's most advanced Fast Jet Radar systems, including TNR, Captor-M and Captor-E.

In this role, you will become a key part of a specialist team responsible for delivering back-office technical support to customers and stakeholders across multiple radar products. Working closely with engineering, manufacturing and operational teams, you will investigate technical issues, provide expert product knowledge, and help ensure our systems continue to perform in demanding operational environments.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to broaden their technical expertise, develop their career within product support, and gain exposure to leading-edge aerospace and defence technologies.

What you will do as a Product Support Engineer

As a Product Support Engineer, you'll play an important role in ensuring our advanced radar systems continue to deliver exceptional performance throughout their operational life. This is an exciting opportunity to develop a broad understanding of the product lifecycle while building valuable skills in engineering analysis, reliability, customer support and stakeholder management.

You'll have the opportunity to:

• Work with experienced engineers to investigate product performance and support continuous improvement activities.
• Analyse real-world operational data to identify trends and help improve system reliability.
• Learn how reliability measures such as Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and Mean Time To Repair (MTTR) are used to support engineering decisions.
• Collaborate with design, quality, logistics and export control teams, gaining exposure to different areas of the business.
• Support the management of product repairs and spares to help keep critical systems operational.
• Contribute to Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) activities, applying engineering and analytical techniques to solve problems.
• Help understand customer requirements and support the development of future support solutions for next-generation technologies.
• Present findings and performance data to project teams and stakeholders.

Our Edinburgh site is recognised globally for designing and manufacturing advanced radar, laser and infrared countermeasure systems used on some of the most sophisticated defence platforms in operation today.

The role offers a flexible hybrid working arrangement, allowing you to balance time on-site with remote working where business needs allow.

You'll have the opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers and technical specialists who are passionate about innovation and eager to support your development. You'll gain exposure to real-world engineering challenges, collaborate across multiple disciplines, and contribute to products that operate in some of the most demanding environments imaginable.

We believe great careers are built through continuous learning. That's why we invest heavily in training, mentoring and professional development, giving you the tools and support to expand your technical expertise, take on new challenges and shape your future career. From day one, you'll be encouraged to ask questions, share ideas and develop the skills needed to become the next generation of engineering talent.

As part of a geographically diverse team, you'll also have opportunities to travel within the UK and occasionally internationally to support customer and team meetings. This provides valuable exposure to different projects, technologies and stakeholders while helping you build your professional network across the wider Leonardo organisation.

What you’ll bring

• Degree in a relevant Engineering, Science, Mathematics or Data-focused discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Experience working in the defence industry or applying Supportability Engineering principles, standards and methodologies.
• Experience providing front-line technical or product support.
• Strong analytical skills with experience of gathering, interpreting and presenting complex data to support decision-making.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data analysis, trend identification, reporting and visualisation.
• Experience using Power BI to create dashboards, reports and actionable insights from large datasets.
• Ability to analyse reliability and maintainability data, identify trends and communicate findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to communicate complex concepts, insights and strategies in a clear and engaging way.
• Ability to build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders across a range of organisations, disciplines, cultures and seniority levels.
• Self-motivated with a natural curiosity, a strong aptitude for problem-solving and the determination to drive challenging issues through to resolution.
• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence others and adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic environment.

Nice to Have

• Experience working with Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action Systems (FRACAS).
• Knowledge of reliability and maintainability analysis techniques, including MTBF and MTTR.
• Experience working with engineering or supportability datasets within aerospace, defence or other highly regulated industries.

This is not an exhaustive list, and we are keen to hear from you even if you might not have experience in all the above. The most important skill is a good attitude and willingness to learn.
