Every year, we support around 125,000 people through nearly 200 services – and it’s all made possible by our 3,500 brilliant staff and volunteers.
Make a real difference in your community
Are you passionate about helping others live safer, healthier, more independent lives? Join our team at Waythrough and support people facing challenges around mental health, substance use, housing or domestic abuse. This is more than just a job – it’s a chance to build meaningful relationships and create lasting change.
About The Role
Are you a Barnsley College student on the Digital Software course looking for hands-on experience that makes a real impact? We’re offering a student placement opportunity within our Marketing and Communications team at Barnsley Recovery Steps – and we’d love for you to join us.
What’s the placement about?
Our website was relaunched at the end of 2024, and now we’re ready to take it to the next level. We’re looking for someone with fresh ideas and digital skills to support us with:
Reviewing and enhancing the young people’s area of our website
Exploring the development of an interactive, student-focused game that looks at county lines and the impact of decisions around alcohol or other drug use, helping young people understand real-life risks in an engaging way
Making sure everything we create is non-judgemental, inclusive, and anti-stigma
There’s also the chance to get involved in content creation, if that’s something you’re interested in – from writing and graphics to video and social media.
What you’ll gain:
Real experience working on a live website project
Insight into the drug and alcohol support sector and the wider charity world
The opportunity to be part of meaningful campaigns that make a difference to young people
Access to our amazing training package
Support from a friendly, passionate team
Where you’ll be based:
You’ll be working at our McLintocks office in Barnsley, where our young people’s team is based. There’s also flexibility for home working, and we’ll do our best to support your learning and wellbeing throughout your placement.
What We Offer
We value the people who make a difference every day. Alongside meaningful work, you’ll enjoy a comprehensive benefits package:
27 days’ annual leave, rising to 32 after 1 year (plus bank holidays)
Pension scheme with 4.5% employer contribution, matched up to 6.5%
Life assurance (3× annual salary)
Enhanced sick pay and family-friendly pay
Birthday leave and the option to buy up to 5 extra days’ annual leave
Professional fee reimbursement for relevant qualifications
24/7 online GP access and Employee Assistance Programme
Recognition and long service awards via our Way to Go and Aspirations portals
