Sr. Software Engineer, Marine

Senior Software Engineer, Marine

Storable is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Marine Division and help build software that powers the day-to-day operations of marinas, boat clubs, service yards, rental fleets, and other waterfront businesses. Our marine platform supports the workflows operators rely on to manage slips and storage, reservations and online bookings, rentals, point of sale, payments and billing, customer and vessel records, digital waivers and contracts, service operations, reporting, and other industry-specific needs.

We are looking for an engineer with strong software engineering fundamentals, deep practical experience building and maintaining production systems, and a demonstrated ability to use AI as a core part of their engineering workflow. The ideal candidate uses AI coding tools as a meaningful part of their engineering workflow. They understand how to apply them thoughtfully across the software development lifecycle: exploring unfamiliar code, accelerating implementation, generating and refining tests, debugging complex issues, evaluating architectural options, improving documentation, and reducing repetitive engineering work. Just as importantly, they know how to review AI-generated output with strong engineering judgment, validating correctness, security, maintainability, and fit within the broader system before anything ships.

This is a role for someone who combines sound engineering judgment with an AI-native approach to building software. You should be comfortable using tools such as Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar AI-assisted development platforms as a normal part of your daily workflow, with clear examples of how these tools have improved your speed, quality, decision-making, or technical output.

About the Role

As a Senior Software Engineer in Storable’s Marine Division, you will contribute to the development and modernization of web applications that support marina operators and their customers. You will work across the stack using technologies such as React, Node.js, PHP, MySQL, and AI-assisted engineering workflows. Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and deployment environments is helpful, but this role is primarily focused on building and improving application software.

You will be expected to bring both traditional software engineering discipline and modern AI-enabled execution. That means writing reliable, maintainable code; understanding systems deeply; making pragmatic technical decisions; communicating clearly with engineers and non-engineers; and using AI tools thoughtfully to move faster, improve quality, and reduce repetitive engineering work.

What You’ll Do

• Develop new features and products for Storable’s marine software platform, working across frontend, backend, and integrations.
• Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate coding, debugging, testing, refactoring, documentation, technical discovery, and design work.
• Apply strong engineering fundamentals when reviewing AI-generated code, ensuring correctness, security, maintainability, and alignment with system architecture.
• Collaborate effectively with infrastructure and platform teams when application work touches CI/CD, AWS services, deployment workflows, monitoring, or reliability concerns.
• Identify and reduce technical debt through thoughtful refactoring, modernization, and architectural improvements.
• Troubleshoot internal bugs and customer-reported issues quickly and effectively, balancing speed with long-term code quality.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, support teams, and other engineers to translate business and customer needs into reliable technical solutions, ensuring technical decisions are clearly explained and understood by the people affected by them.
• Mentor other engineers on both traditional engineering best practices and effective use of AI-assisted development workflows.
• Participate actively in collaborative development practices, including stand-ups, retrospectives, backlog refinement, technical design discussions, and the creation of technical design documents for meaningful product or architecture changes.
• Write and maintain unit, integration, and functional tests to ensure confidence in the systems we build.
• Continuously evaluate new tools, technologies, and AI-enabled workflows that can improve engineering productivity and product quality.

What We’re Looking For

• 7+ years of practical software engineering experience, preferably including significant experience building and maintaining production web applications.
• Strong full-stack development experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Node.js, PHP, MySQL, or comparable technologies.
• A track record of shipping software in real-world production environments where reliability, maintainability, and customer impact matter.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, with demonstrated experience using AI-assisted development tools as part of a modern engineering workflow.
• Hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools as a normal part of day-to-day engineering work.
• Strong ability to evaluate, correct, and improve AI-generated code rather than accepting outputs blindly.
• A practical understanding of software architecture, debugging, testing, performance, scalability, and technical tradeoffs.
• Some exposure to cloud infrastructure, CI/CD systems, AWS services, serverless functions, deployment workflows, or related infrastructure tooling is helpful, but not required.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to break down ambiguous technical challenges into clear, executable steps.
• Excellent communication skills are essential. You should be able to explain technical decisions clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders through design documents, diagrams, tradeoff analysis, async updates, and collaborative discussion.
• A collaborative mindset and demonstrated ability to mentor, guide, and raise the technical bar for other engineers through clear feedback, thoughtful documentation, and effective technical discussion.
• Must be able to reliably work on-site at our Seattle, WA office three days per week.

How We Expect Engineers to Use AI

We are especially interested in engineers who treat AI as a serious engineering tool and can point to practical ways it has improved how they build software. You should be comfortable using AI to:

• Explore implementation options, compare technical tradeoffs, and help structure technical design documents that clarify the recommended path forward.
• Generate first drafts of code, tests, documentation, technical design documents, diagrams, scripts, and migration plans.
• Debug unfamiliar systems and reason through complex code paths.
• Refactor legacy code safely and incrementally.
• Improve developer velocity without compromising quality.
• Validate assumptions and pressure-test technical decisions.
• Build internal tools, automation, and workflows that reduce repetitive engineering work.
• Review AI-generated work critically for correctness, maintainability, security, and product fit.
• We value engineers who know when AI can accelerate the work, and when careful human judgment is required.

Technical Experience

We do not expect every candidate to have deep experience in every technology listed below. Strong experience in several of these areas, combined with the ability to learn quickly and use AI effectively, is what matters most.

Primary technologies and tools may include:

• Node.js
• TypeScript / JavaScript
• PHP
• React
• MySQL
• REST APIs
• Testing frameworks
• AI-assisted development tools, including systems such as Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar coding assistants and agentic development tools

Nice to Have

• Experience modernizing legacy systems or incrementally refactoring older codebases.
• Experience working in SaaS products serving industry-specific operational workflows.
• Experience with point of sale, reservations, bookings, payments, customer management, or marketplace-style systems.
• Experience building internal AI-enabled tools or workflows for engineering teams.
• Experience mentoring engineers on effective prompting, AI-assisted code review, or AI-driven development practices.

Education

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is helpful, but equivalent professional experience is equally valued.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an experienced engineer with strong fundamentals, practical production experience, and a high level of fluency with modern AI-assisted development tools.

You know how to reason through systems, debug difficult problems, evaluate tradeoffs, and ship reliable software. You also know how to use AI to move faster, explore more options, improve quality, and reduce repetitive engineering work.

You bring judgment, curiosity, technical depth, strong communication habits, and modern execution speed. You are the kind of engineer who can help Storable Marine build better software faster while raising the standard for how our team uses AI, communicates technical decisions, and collaborates in day-to-day engineering.
