We are seeking a Software Engineer to join our Engineering Enablement team and drive company-wide developer productivity. You will build and evolve internal platforms, services, and toolchains that power engineering workflows across Motional.

In this role, you will partner closely with teams across the organization to identify systemic bottlenecks, design scalable, self-service developer platforms that reduce cognitive load, streamline CI/CD workflows, and enable teams to move from code to production with speed and confidence.

Your primary focus will be our internal developer platform and productivity tooling, enabling engineers to ship reliable, high-quality code faster and more efficiently.

What you'll be doing:

Build scalable backend services, CI/CD pipelines, build systems, toolchains and platforms that can support developer workflows
Work closely with engineering teams throughout the company to understand their needs, identify pain-points and drive initiatives to improve their development workflows
Improve system reliability, performance, scalability, and observability across distributed systems by introducing new tools and/or building new features
Monitor system performance and health, proactively identifying and resolving issues before they impact users
Contribute to system architecture decisions and technical roadmaps

What we're looking for:

BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent knowledge and work experience
2+ years in Software Engineering or related roles
Strong background in modern programming languages (Python, Go, C++ are the ones we use).
Experience with Unix-like environments, software, and toolchains.
Knowledge of CI/CD tools (e.g. GitLab CI, Jenkins), cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, GCP) & infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
Expertise in software development lifecycle including the ability to understand ambiguous goals and convert them into software requirements
Strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Bonus points (not required):

Experience in the AV industry or robotics
Deep expertise with mono-repo software development tools and services (e.g. Bazel)
Previously been on on-call roster to support P1 & P0 systems
Experience with AI/LLM integration, specifically building/extending Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers to enhance developer productivity and system automation.

Why you should join us:

Motional is a driverless technology company making autonomous vehicles a safe, reliable, and accessible reality. We’re driven by something more.

Our journey is always people first.

We aren't just developing driverless cars; we're creating safer roadways, more equitable transportation options, and making our communities better places to live, work, and connect. Our team is made up of engineers, researchers, innovators, dreamers and doers, who are creating a technology with the potential to transform the way we move.

Higher purpose, greater impact.

We’re creating first-of-its-kind technology that will transform transportation. To do so successfully, we must design for everyone in our cities and on our roads. We believe in building a great place to work through a progressive, global culture that is diverse, inclusive, and ensures people feel valued at every level of the organization. Diversity helps us to see the world differently; it’s not only good for our business, it’s the right thing to do.

Scale up, not starting up.

Our team is behind some of the industry's largest leaps forward, including the first fully-autonomous cross-country drive in the U.S, the launch of the world's first robotaxi pilot, and operation of the world's longest-standing public robotaxi fleet. We’re driven to scale; we’re moving towards commercialization of our technology, and we need team members who are ready to embrace change and challenges.

Formed as a joint venture between Hyundai Motor Group and Aptiv, Motional is fundamentally changing how people move through their lives. Headquartered in Boston, Motional has operations in the U.S and Asia. For more information, visit www.Motional.com and follow us on Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and YouTube.
