Service Technician

Commercial Refrigeration Technician

5-Star Refrigeration | Ocala / The Villages, FL

Ready to Take the Next Step Into Rack Refrigeration?

5-Star Refrigeration is looking for a technician with commercial HVAC or cold-side refrigeration experience who wants to take their skills to the next level and learn commercial rack refrigeration.

You do NOT need previous rack refrigeration experience.

If you already know your way around commercial HVAC, walk-ins, reach-ins, ice machines, or other cold-side equipment and have solid troubleshooting fundamentals, we're interested in talking to you.

We'll help you build on that experience and develop the skills needed to work on larger, more complex commercial refrigeration systems.

Location Requirement

This position supports customers throughout the Ocala / The Villages market.

Candidates must live in or between the Ocala and The Villages areas, or within a reasonable distance of this territory.

This is a field-service position and is not remote.

What You'll Do

You'll begin by putting your existing commercial HVAC/R skills to work while gaining hands-on exposure to rack refrigeration systems.

Depending on your experience, you'll:

• Diagnose, repair, and maintain commercial refrigeration and HVAC equipment
• Service walk-in coolers and freezers, reach-ins, condensing units, evaporators, and other commercial cold-side equipment
• Learn to troubleshoot and service commercial rack refrigeration systems
• Develop your knowledge of compressors, refrigerant circuits, controls, defrost systems, cases, and related components
• Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration issues
• Perform leak detection, refrigerant recovery, evacuation, charging, and system repairs
• Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation
• Perform preventative maintenance and identify potential equipment failures
• Respond to service calls throughout the assigned territory
• Communicate with customers regarding equipment conditions and completed repairs
• Accurately document service work
• Work independently while staying connected with dispatch and the service team
• Participate in an on-call rotation as required

What We're Looking For

We're NOT looking for someone who already knows everything about rack refrigeration.

We're looking for someone who has a strong technical foundation and wants to learn.

You should have:

• Previous commercial HVAC and/or cold-side refrigeration experience
• Experience troubleshooting commercial equipment
• Basic knowledge of refrigeration principles and components
• Electrical troubleshooting skills
• Ability to read wiring diagrams and schematics
• EPA certification
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
• Strong mechanical aptitude
• Ability to work independently in the field
• Good communication and customer-service skills
• Willingness to learn more complex commercial refrigeration systems
• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation
• Residence in or around the Ocala–The Villages territory

Your Experience Might Look Like This

Maybe you're currently servicing:

• Walk-in coolers and freezers
• Reach-in refrigeration
• Ice machines
• Commercial HVAC systems
• Rooftop units
• Restaurant refrigeration equipment
• Convenience-store equipment
• Commercial foodservice equipment

And you're thinking:

"I'd like to learn racks, but nobody wants to hire you unless you already have rack experience."

That's exactly the gap we're looking to bridge.

Why Learn Rack Refrigeration?

Rack refrigeration is a specialized skill that can open the door to a long-term career working on larger and more complex commercial refrigeration systems.

Instead of staying limited to smaller stand-alone equipment, you'll have the opportunity to expand your troubleshooting skills and learn systems commonly used in supermarkets and other large commercial environments.

We're looking for someone who wants to build that skill set and grow with us.

What 5-Star Refrigeration Offers

• Competitive pay based on experience
• Hands-on rack refrigeration training and development
• Company service vehicle and fuel card
• Company-provided tools and equipment as applicable
• Medical, dental, and vision benefits
• 401(k)
• Paid time off and paid holidays
• Ongoing technical training
• Opportunities for career advancement
• Support from experienced refrigeration technicians and leadership

The Bottom Line

You don't need years of rack refrigeration experience to apply.

You DO need a solid foundation in commercial HVAC or cold-side refrigeration, good troubleshooting skills, and the desire to learn something more advanced.

If you've been waiting for someone to give you the opportunity to move into rack refrigeration, this could be it.

Apply today and let's talk about where your experience can take you.
