Senior Systems Engineer

Each of us cares about someone who will need medicines. That’s why our vision is to repeatedly beat the odds to deliver breakthrough medicines to patients that need them. We pursue truth and scientific rigour and have the courage to work at the edge of the unknown.

We are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to own and evolve the IT systems behind our drug discovery and development pipeline, and to lead the modernization of how we operate them. You’ll shape the technical architecture across our hybrid cloud and on-prem environment, set the direction for where it goes next, and stay hands-on in the systems you’re responsible for. We're looking for someone whose leadership shows up in their craft - through technical judgment, architectural thinking, and the kind of depth that others naturally orient around.

How you might spend your days

• Designing, building, and evolving IT systems supporting corporate, scientific and manufacturing workloads; we have a hybrid environment including both cloud and on-prem systems
• Partnering with engineering, scientific, and platform teams to modernize and optimize our IT infrastructure
• Building and improving standards for systems architecture and operations; you will use infrastructure-as-code, configuration management, and automation to improve service consistency and quality
• Driving improvements in the availability, resilience, and efficiency of our high-impact systems
• Helping to shape our infrastructure roadmap, balancing pragmatic near-term improvements with future platform needs
• Leading and mentoring within and beyond our team; growing the engineers and administrators around you and serving as a trusted advisor on hard technical problems

We'd love to hear from you if

• You have deep experience building and operating cloud (AWS) and on-prem infrastructure, and you’ve led technical projects end-to-end: shaping architecture, making pragmatic tradeoffs, and bringing others along
• You’re a continuous learner who is curious about how things work end-to-end, interested in the science your work supports, and energized by an environment that’s evolving
• You are a systems thinker, and execute with modern practices; infrastructure-as-code, automation, and observability are core tools, not afterthoughts to you
• You have 8+ years of related experience operating production infrastructure, in addition to a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience in a technical field); candidates with 6+ years of related experience in addition to a Master’s degree will also be considered
• You’ve raised the technical bar of a team through mentorship, thought leadership, and direct execution, whether or not you’ve formally managed anyone
• You can adapt your communication style to influence diverse stakeholders, including engineers, developers, and scientists; you enjoy collaborating on solutions and making connections to facilitate problem solving
• You have experience with cloud-native modernization (containers, serverless), supporting scientific or manufacturing environments, or working in regulated industries (GxP, SOC2, etc.)

You will have a CAD $1,500 annual Active Lifestyle Allowance, annual vacation, professional development opportunities, and comprehensive health benefits. About AbCellera

Creating medicines is the most important work we can do.

We are a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on discovering and developing antibody-based medicines in the areas of endocrinology, women’s health, immunology, and oncology. We have built a platform for advancing antibody drug programs from target to clinic, and we are using it to build our internal pipeline.

Today, our pipeline includes two drug candidates in clinical development, two preclinical development candidates (DCs) in Investigational New Drug (IND)-enabling activities, and more than 20 active discovery programs across multiple modalities and indications.

We believe that when tenacious people share a vision and work together, they can truly have a positive impact. That’s why we hire for character and intelligence, not just for CVs or experience.

We look for people with drive and energy. People we trust. People who need to know their days are being well spent. That their work really matters. In the end, our success will be measured by the impact of our medicines.
