ApplyAbout Ditto:
Ditto is redefining how data moves at the edge. Our mission is to make it seamless for developers to build resilient, real-time applications, regardless of network conditions. Whether you're in a stadium, airplane, or remote military base, Ditto's peer-to-peer sync engine ensures devices stay connected and data stays consistent, even without internet. With more than $145 million in funding and trusted by organizations like Chick-fil-A, Delta Airlines, and the U.S. military, Ditto powers mission-critical experiences across aviation, retail, travel, hospitality, defense, and more. As a globally distributed, fast-growing startup, we’re committed to building a diverse and inclusive team that reflects the wide range of perspectives needed to solve the world’s hardest connectivity problems.
Unleash the full power of edge devices by eliminating all the plumbing required to build amazing applications. As a global team, we prioritize trust, communication, and continuous improvement as our core values. We strongly believe in celebrating diversity and strive to create a team that encompasses a wide range of backgrounds, skill sets, and perspectives.
Ditto aims to expand the internet beyond traditional reach. Our groundbreaking software empowers devices to synchronize data in real time, using cutting-edge peer-to-peer technology that runs on mobile, web, IoT, and server systems.
We're seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer, Bluetooth to own and advance the Bluetooth transport layer that powers Ditto's distributed data platform. You'll be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing the software that enables reliable, low-latency peer-to-peer communication between devices—even when they're completely offline. Your work will directly impact millions of data sync operations happening across our customers' distributed systems.
In this role, you'll tackle the inherent challenges of Bluetooth connectivity—unreliable connections, diverse device behaviors, interference—and build elegant, resilient solutions that make peer-to-peer sync feel magical to end users.
What You’ll Be Up To…
Build and optimize core connectivity features
Design and implement robust Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) solutions in C++/C/Kotlin for iOS and Android platforms. You'll handle complex connection states, manage central and peripheral roles, and ensure our Bluetooth stack delivers the low-latency, high-throughput performance our distributed database requires.
Extend our protocol capabilities
Implement new Bluetooth profiles and features that expand Ditto's connectivity options. You'll work on advertising strategies, scanning optimization, and connection management to maximize device discovery and pairing success across diverse environments.
Ensure reliability at scale
Build sophisticated error handling and recovery mechanisms that gracefully manage Bluetooth's inherent unreliability. Your code will need to handle edge cases, interference patterns, and the quirks of thousands of different device models in production.
Optimize for the real world
Tune performance across multiple dimensions—latency, throughput, connection stability, and power efficiency. You'll profile code, identify bottlenecks, and make architectural decisions that balance competing constraints.
Create robust testing infrastructure
Develop automated testing frameworks (primarily Python-based) that validate Bluetooth performance across diverse device types, OS versions, and real-world scenarios. You'll build the tools that give us confidence in every release.
Collaborate across the stack
Work closely with mobile app developers, platform engineers, and product teams to integrate Bluetooth seamlessly with other transport layers (Wi-Fi Direct, LAN) and ensure a unified sync experience.
7+ years of software engineering experience with at least 3-4 years focused on Bluetooth development
Deep expertise in Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) protocols, profiles, and the Bluetooth Core Specification
Strong proficiency in C++/C and experience with mobile development in Kotlin (Android) and/or Swift/Objective-C (iOS)
Experience with Rust or strong willingness to learn and work in a Rust environment
Proven track record of shipping production Bluetooth features in mobile applications
Experience debugging complex connectivity issues across diverse device ecosystems
Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, state machines, and asynchronous programming
Ability to write clean, maintainable code with comprehensive test coverage
Production experience with Rust in systems programming or networking contexts
Experience with Bluetooth Mesh or other mesh networking protocols
Background in distributed systems or peer-to-peer networking
Familiarity with other local transport protocols (Wi-Fi Direct, NFC, etc.)
Python scripting for test automation and tooling
Experience with performance profiling and optimization on mobile platforms
Open source contributions to Bluetooth-related projects
Knowledge of embedded systems or IoT device development
We offer competitive salaries and meaningful equity. We believe everyone on the team should have a stake in what we’re building. Benefits vary by region to make sure you're covered in the ways that matter most. In the US, that includes health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, plus a 401(k) and flexible spending accounts.
Regardless of where you live, everyone at Ditto can utilize flexible time off. And while we work remotely, our Atlanta office is always open if you ever want a place to work or meet up with teammates.
At Ditto, we know game-changers don’t always come wrapped in a “perfect” resume. Years of experience? Every single bullet point checked? Meh. That’s not what drives us.
What does matter?
Grit.
Curiosity.
Adaptability.
And a genuine spark for what we’re building.
So if you’re fired up about our mission but not sure you tick every box - hit that apply button anyway. Use your application to show us how you’ll make an impact here.
We’re always on the lookout for exceptional humans who want to grow, stretch, and build something meaningful with us.
