Senior Backend Software Engineer - Workplace Products at Verkada · Katori

Who We Are

Verkada is transforming how organizations protect their people and places with an integrated, privacy-sensitive AI-powered platform that includes solutions for video security, access control, air quality sensors, alarms, intercoms, and visitor management.

We’ve got serious momentum in the market: more than 30,000 customers (including 100+ of the Fortune 500), a $5.8B valuation, more than $1 billion in annualized bookings, and backing from CapitalG, Sequoia Capital, General Catalyst, Felicis Ventures, Next47 and more. Physical AI is one of the most consequential technology shifts of our time, and Verkada is at the center of it.

You can look at all kinds of communities to see our platform’s impact in the world. It's the retailer that uses our agentic AI to deter theft before it happens. The warehouse that uses AI-powered alerts to make sure its team is protected on the floor with proper PPE. The school that’s alerted to a threat in real-time and triggers a lockdown in seconds, not minutes. We’re rapidly scaling this impact: today, more than 2 million Verkada devices are deployed across 170+ countries.

About the Role

We are a small, dynamic team and are looking for software engineers who thrive in a high growth environment working alongside teammates to launch products and features that will be utilized by customers across the globe. As part of the Software Engineering team, you’ll have ownership of one or more projects on various product or platform facing teams. You will work across the full software stack and collaborate cross functionally to build the latest iterations of Verkada’s flagship software, enabling our best-in-class security systems.

We consider our team a startup within a startup, with a fair amount of ownership and autonomy. You’ll be working alongside a dynamic team of mobile, and frontend engineers to develop this product line.

Excited by new products and startups
You think about delivering best-in-class products and experiences - not features

What You Bring

6+ years of industry backend software engineering experience
2+ years of professional experience as a backend engineer at a rapidly growing start up or innovative company.

Ownership mentality, resolving problems that span beyond team boundaries
Deep expertise with relational databases. Postgres experience a plus
Demonstrated expertise in either Python or GoLang
Experience with Kubernetes a plus

Bonus point:

Experience building messaging systems, with a proven track record of designing and maintaining highly available, distributed messaging architectures (e.g., mass notification systems), and a strong understanding of the SMS ecosystem, including throughput management, carrier delivery nuances, and global compliance.
