About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Agentic Engineer to join the Enterprise team at WATI — one of the largest WhatsApp Business API SaaS platforms globally, serving tens of thousands of businesses.

You will own core backend features end-to-end: from requirement analysis and technical design through implementation and production monitoring. The work spans analytics APIs, messaging infrastructure, multi-tenant data pipelines, and AI-powered automation tooling. You will also use AI coding agents to deliver scoped frontend changes when needed.

This role requires strong proficiency with AI coding agents—preferably Codex and Cursor, followed by Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or comparable tools—as a force multiplier in daily engineering work, not as a novelty but as a core part of the workflow.

What You Will Do

Design and implement backend features for a multi-tenant SaaS platform (WhatsApp Business messaging, broadcast, automation, analytics)

Own technical designs and drive cross-repo coordination across backend, frontend, messaging services, and billing; use AI coding agents to implement and validate frontend changes when needed

Debug complex production issues across distributed systems (async job chains, webhook pipelines, multi-tenant data flows)

Build and use AI agents to accelerate engineering workflows—including requirement analysis, code generation, code review, testing, debugging, and documentation

Collaborate directly with PM, CS, and international engineering teams in English

Requirements

5+ years of software engineering experience, with strong backend development skills (language agnostic): C#/.NET, Go, TypeScript, Python, all acceptable

Experience designing APIs, data models, and async workflows for multi-tenant SaaS systems

Proven ability to debug and resolve complex issues across multiple services, queues, and databases in production

Demonstrated ability to use AI coding agents as a core part of daily development—including delivering production-quality frontend changes when backend is the primary strength. Preferred tool experience: Codex, Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or comparable tools are also valuable

Experience with AI agent architectures, tool calling, MCP, or LLM-based workflow orchestration is a strong plus

Experience with .NET / C#, MongoDB, or Google Cloud (Pub/Sub, BigQuery, AlloyDB) is a strong plus

Domain experience in messaging, IM, customer support platforms, or WhatsApp Business API is a strong plus

Professional working proficiency in English — able to read/write technical documents and collaborate with international teams

Strong problem-solving ability and comfort working in a fast-paced, globally distributed environment

What We Evaluate

Agent design & architecture — Is the LLM-to-API mapping clean and extensible?

API understanding — Did the candidate correctly grasp API semantics and relationships?

Product thinking & UX — Edge case handling, confirmation flows, error recovery

Code quality — Readable, well-organized, appropriately abstracted

Write-up & communication — Clear reasoning, well-articulated trade-offs

Full assignment brief with API reference and sandbox credentials will be provided to shortlisted candidates.

Benefits

One of the largest WhatsApp Business API platforms, used by 10,000+ businesses globally

Engineering team across India, China, and remote — real international collaboration

AI-first engineering culture — we actively invest in AI-assisted development tooling

Direct impact: features you build are used by businesses to communicate with millions of end-users daily
