Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday 8am - 4pm

Want to join a company that values your craftsmanship and your career?

At SMS Environmental, we’re not just fixing leaks — we’re protecting lives and water systems across the UK. As a Plumbing Remedial Engineer, you’ll play a crucial role in keeping commercial and domestic plumbing systems safe, compliant, and efficient.

We’re a people-first business with a strong culture of support, recognition, and professional growth. Whether you’re tackling a reactive repair or mentoring the next generation of plumbers, you’ll have the tools, training, and trust to do your best work every day.

What will I be doing?

You’ll be part of our skilled Mechanical Team, working independently and collaboratively to complete remedial and reactive plumbing tasks. Every day will bring something different, but you can expect to:

• Carry out plumbing works safely and efficiently, following SMS Method Statements.
• Undertake water testing, sampling, and tank disinfection alongside Water Treatment Engineers.
• Identify non-compliances and report system conditions to Account Managers.
• Use Opuz software and your company iPad to complete accurate reports.
• Support the development of new plumbers and share your knowledge.
• Uphold the highest health and safety standards across every task.
• You’ll be trusted to take ownership of your work — and you’ll always know help is just a call away when you need it.

What do I need to be successful?

We’re looking for someone who takes pride in their trade and works with integrity and precision. You’ll need:

• NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in Plumbing
• Full UK Manual Driving Licence
• Willing to travel - will include occasional travel to London
• Minimum 2 years’ plumbing experience, ideally within the water hygiene industry
• Confidence working independently and safely on-site
• Strong communication skills and a customer-focused mindset
• Basic IT knowledge – using iPads and digital reporting tools
• Ability to pass Disclosure and Barring Service clearance (Enhanced DBS check)

If you’ve got experience in commercial or domestic environments or knowledge of legionella control, even better!

What’s in it for me?

We believe your hard work deserves more than just a payslip. Here’s what you’ll enjoy as part of the SMS family:

• 37.5 hours per week (Monday–Friday, 8am–4pm) – plus paid overtime available
• 22 days holiday plus bank holidays, with an additional day off for your birthday after 2 years’ service
• Company iPad and mobile phone
• Brand-new uniform, tools, equipment, and PPE provided
• Modern, fully serviced company van and business fuel card
• Trade cards – ensuring you’re never far from what you need on the job
• City & Guilds Affiliated Training Programme to support your professional growth
• Private Medical Care or alternative Cash Plan after 2 years’ service
• Enhanced Sick, Maternity and Paternity Leave
• 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme for support when you need it
• Employee Discount Scheme – save up to £240 per month on food and groceries
• Core Values Champions Rewards – quarterly peer-nominated recognition with reward vouchers
• Annual development and review process to help shape your career
