Have you ever thought there was a better way to learn and master a subject?
This is your chance to prove it. As Contour Education launches in New South Wales, we are hiring a State Subject Curriculum Lead for Physics: the person who owns the source of truth for how the subject is learned at Contour. You bring your vision of the subject, and we give you the platform to turn it into a real, tangible course that will shape how hundreds, then thousands, of students learn and think.
Our mission is reshaping education, and this role is where that actually happens. You make the strategic calls on curriculum, sequencing, and assessment preparation, then direct what gets built from them, reporting directly to the national Head of Subject. Rather than writing every question yourself, you steer content production and act as the quality gate, building a compounding body of knowledge from the ground up.
This isn’t a marking-and-admin role. It is a founding, remote/hybrid, part-time position (8-10 hours per week) with complete strategic ownership of your subject in NSW. You take a blank page and turn NESA guidelines into a premium, state-specific programme built to scale.
Love teaching as much as designing? This role pairs naturally with our HSC Physics Tutor position (in-person, Sydney). You can apply for both simultaneously, and many of our best leads do exactly that. The remote flexibility applies to the Curriculum Lead work; tutoring happens on campus.
Who We Are
At Contour, we're reshaping education, one student at a time.
Born from the frustration of students who knew the system could be better, we set out to build what we once wished existed: tutoring that actually works. Not generic classes. Not recycled notes. Not overpriced, overcrowded rooms with an out-of-touch teacher who couldn't relate. But a complete ecosystem of tutoring, resources, and support, meticulously designed to help every student reach their full potential.
Since 2020, over 15,000+ students have trusted Contour to guide their academic journey, and we've grown to over 500+ team members. We've produced hundreds of 99+ ATARs, tutored the World-Record UCAT scorer, and placed more students into medical school than any school in Australia.
Our growth is a testament to the simple philosophy: Put the student first, always. Everything we design, from our world-class tutor-training programs to our purpose-built campuses, exists to help students master content faster, perform with confidence, and even rekindle the joy of learning.
Contour is a group of three brands united by one goal: to give every student the best chance to achieve their full potential:
- Contour Education: Reshaping how students master their high school subjects with small-group tutoring, structured resources, and 1-on-1 support across Maths, Science, and English.
- Contour Medprep: Reshaping medical preparation with a proven, step-by-step pathway through the UCAT, interviews, and admissions, led by a team of 100+ medical students.
- Contour TestPrep: Reshaping test preparation, starting with the selective entry exam, through rigorous tutoring, mock exams, and data-driven feedback to give students a decisive advantage.
This is Contour. Built by students, for students.
What You Will Do
As our State Subject Curriculum Lead, you’ll own the educational source of truth for Physics across NSW and strategically direct everything built from it.
- Map: Build and maintain the curriculum source of truth for your subject, mapping out NESA syllabuses, recurring exam questions, and common student pitfalls.
- Pace: Translate curriculum insights into live topic sequencing, question-type maps, and school-specific workshops kept 1-2 weeks ahead of local classrooms.
- Support: Design the targeted materials and support systems students need to conquer internal assessments, optimise their school ranks, and ace the HSC.
- Direct: Plan educational resources upstream from the source of truth, briefing and steering Resource Developers so production never bottlenecks on you.
- Govern: Act as the final quality gate, signing off on all subject materials with absolute polish while continuously pushing curriculum innovation.
What You Will Bring
You qualify through either pathway:
- As a top graduate: 98+ ATAR with a Band 6 in HSC Physics. State ranks are ideal, but not compulsory.
- Or as an experienced teacher: you have taught HSC Physics at a school. If you’ve taught it, you don’t need the ATAR or band requirements above.
And in either case:
- Deep curriculum expertise and strong opinions on how the subject is sequenced, taught, and examined under NESA.
- Excellent documentation skills with a focus on building durable, written educational frameworks.
- Uncompromising attention to detail with an obsession for error-free work and polished formatting.
- High operational bandwidth to hit tight production deadlines and patch issues proactively.
- Comfort using modern software and AI tooling to accelerate documentation and drafting on top of your own craft (preferred).
- Alignment with Contour’s student-first mission and a passion for reshaping education.
Why You Will Love It
- Reshape How a State Learns: Your curriculum decisions become the course itself. Every sequencing call, every assessment strategy, every standard you set reaches real classrooms and real students from day one.
- Founding Role in NSW: Lead the charge in our newest state with our very first HSC cohort. Create an entire curriculum from the ground up rather than inherit one.
- Ownership & Autonomy: Freedom and trust to run the state’s curriculum your way, working directly with the national Head of Subject. No bureaucracy, no committees.
- Remote/Hybrid & Flexible: Work from wherever suits you, part-time, on a schedule that fits around your degree, teaching load, or career. We value your output, not the hours you clock.
- Elite Brand & Real Benefits: Join an organisation ranked #8 on the AFR Fast 100 in 2025 (our fourth consecutive year on the AFR lists), with an EAP, birthday/loyalty leave, lifestyle allowances, and covered subscriptions to Netflix, Spotify, Apple Music, Uber One, and Amazon Prime.
- Salary: $100,000 - $120,000 full-time equivalent + super, pro-rated to part-time hours
