Electronics Design Engineer | Hardware Engineering | Hybrid Working | Athens

Introduction:

Ocado Technology is changing the way the world shops using advanced Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Robotics, Big Data, Cloud and IoT. We develop the innovative software and hardware systems that power Ocado.com, as well as the unique ‘Ocado Smart Platform’ which is being implemented by ambitious retailers across the world from Europe to America, Asia and beyond.

Ocado Technology - Greece (acquisition): https://www.myrmex-inc.com/blog/19

Our R&D department is based in Athens, Greece, where a team of brilliant engineers are developing disruptive material handling systems for the online grocery industry and other retail verticals. We pioneer innovative order fulfilment solutions and last-mile delivery business models tailored for retailers and supply chain-intensive sectors. Our mission is to assist them in overcoming the challenges inherent in modernising their systems and processes to effectively address complex industry issues. Some of the most innovative retailers globally have already partnered with us, and we are delivering products and services for them.

If you are excited about the cross-section where machines meet humans, about the future of work, retail and supply chains, and want to help transform the European logistics industry via Greek technologies, we are interested in getting to know you.

About the Role

As an Electronics Design Engineer within our Hardware Engineering team, you will play a pivotal role in designing and developing custom Printed Circuit Board (PCB) prototypes for cutting-edge robotic applications. You will take ownership across the entire lifecycle of our hardware designs, spanning initial concept, specification, schematic capture, component selection, simulation, prototyping, verification, debugging, and ongoing product support.

Working in our Athens R&D centre, you will tackle complex engineering challenges while driving continuous design improvements through root cause failure analysis and safety evaluations. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams - including software, firmware, mechanical, integration, and testing engineers—to ensure our hardware solutions seamlessly integrate into state-of-the-art automated logistics platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and test custom PCB prototypes and electronic hardware solutions in line with project specifications.
Perform analog electronic circuit simulations using SPICE software to evaluate system performance.
Conduct schematic capture, component selection, prototyping, verification, and debugging activities.
Execute constraint-driven, high-frequency, and low-noise multi-layer PCB layout designs.
Perform root cause analysis on hardware failures, present detailed findings, and optimize existing PCB designs.
Verify design performance and functionality using standard laboratory instrumentation and custom test setups.
Conduct Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to quantify the reliability and safety levels of hardware functions.
Formulate comprehensive test plans to validate electronic hardware against design requirements.
Execute hands-on PCB rework to support hardware testing, prototyping, and failure diagnostics.
Collaborate cross-functionally with software, firmware, mechanical, integration, and testing teams.

What We’re Looking For

Degree (Bachelor’s, Diploma, or MSc/MEng) in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
Proven PCB design experience using industry-standard CAD tools (such as Altium, Cadence, Mentor, KiCad, or Eagle).
Solid understanding of analog and digital electronics fundamentals.
Proficiency in using analog electronic circuit simulation software (e.g., SPICE).
Familiarity with standard laboratory test and measurement equipment (oscilloscopes, signal generators, power supplies, signal analysers).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
Strong collaborative mindset with a communicative, team-oriented approach.

Nice to Haves

Practical experience with hand soldering and manual PCB rework techniques.
