About SkyPilot
SkyPilot accelerates the world's most ambitious AI teams. SkyPilot turns fragmented AI compute across clusters into one optimized, highly available and easy-to-use pool: a single AI supercomputer.
SkyPilot (10k+ GitHub stars, 18M+ downloads) manages the GPU fleets of 100s of companies, from Fortune 500s to top AI-natives like Abridge, Applied Compute, Mistral, Unconventional AI, H Company, and Nubank, with usage growing exponentially. Born in the UC Berkeley lab behind Spark and Databricks, our growing team includes top-tier talent from Databricks, Google, Berkeley, MIT, CMU, and Cornell. To date, SkyPilot has raised over $20M in seed funding from top investors (incl. Lux, Coatue, Amplify) and operators (incl. Ali Ghodsi, Jeff Dean, Guillermo Rauch, Amjad Masad, Clem Delangue, Aaron Levie).
The role
We're looking for a Design Lead to own design at SkyPilot: the website, launches, social, decks, events, and the product.
The role is brand-first and hands-on. You'll spend most of your time making the work — building the visual identity, designing and shipping the web presence, and figuring out how to make a deeply technical product legible to the engineers who use it. You'll also set the bar for design company-wide, product included, and hire as we grow.
We expect a strong background in brand design, and enough product judgment to review product work credibly.
What you'll do
- Own the brand: the visual identity and the system behind it, and every surface it shows up on — website, launches, campaigns, social, decks, docs, events, swag.
- Lead concept and execution: this is a making role. You'll design it, build it, and ship it — concept through production.
- Make the technical story visual: architecture diagrams, product explainers, launch illustrations. You get to define how a whole new category in AI infrastructure looks.
- Lead design across the company: set the bar, run critique, keep product and brand coherent, and hire as the team grows.
What we're looking for
- 8+ years in design, preferably for deeply technical products such as dev tools, AI or infrastructure.
- A portfolio with exceptional taste in craft, type and color.
- Deep brand and web craft, and the ability to build what you design using AI tooling where it helps.
- Strong product design judgment to critique product work credibly and lift its quality.
- Fluency with technical subject matter. You can learn how a system works and design something that explains it clearly.
- Opinions about craft and restraint, the ability to argue for them and take feedback well.
- You drive work to completion and raise the bar for the people around you.
What we offer
- Competitive compensation and equity.
- Comprehensive medical, dental, vision coverage for you and your dependents.
- The chance to work with some of the best minds in cloud, distributed, and AI systems — with significant autonomy and ownership.
- A front-row seat at the latest open-source infra startup from Berkeley.
- Gourmet lunch & dinner for the team to do their best work.
Location: San Mateo, CA. Remote will be considered for exceptional candidates.
