About Promentrs
Promentrs is a professional services firm providing high-caliber accounting and finance expertise to businesses across industries. We embed experienced professionals directly with our clients, giving them the senior-level talent they need, exactly when they need it. Whether a client is navigating a complex close, managing rapid growth, or preparing for an audit, our people step in and deliver with confidence and precision.
We're building a team of sharp, self-motivated accounting professionals who want variety, autonomy, and real impact without the constraints of a traditional in-house role. This engagement begins as a 1099 independent contractor arrangement, with the option to transition to full-time employment.
Each engagement is unique. Rather than the routine, maintenance-driven work that defines most internal accounting roles, you'll be brought in for purposeful, high-impact projects that challenge you to think critically and perform at your best. Because you work on one engagement at a time on a full-time basis, you're fully immersed in each client's environment, developing deep expertise across industries, systems, and business situations that most accountants never encounter in a traditional role.
Job Description
As a Controller at Promentrs, you are the senior financial leader for our clients. You will own the accounting function, set the standard for financial integrity, and serve as a true business partner to C-suite executives and Finance Directors. You will be brought in for purposeful, high-impact engagements, not routine maintenance work. Each project is an opportunity to step into a new environment, solve complex problems, and leave the organization materially stronger than you found it.
What You'll Do

- Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close cycle, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and full compliance with U.S. GAAP
- Prepare and review financial statements, management reporting packages, and board-level financial presentations
- Lead variance analysis, identifying trends, issues, and opportunities and communicating findings clearly to senior leadership
- Manage and review general ledger activity, account reconciliations, and trial balance with a high standard of accuracy
Strategic Business Partnership
- Function as a trusted advisor to the CFO, CEO, and other key business leaders, providing financial insights that support strategic decision-making
- Partner across departments including operations, FP&A, legal, and HR to align financial processes with broader business objectives

Controls, Compliance & Process Improvements
- Design, implement, and maintain a strong internal control environment that limits business risk and exposure
- Develop, document, and enforce accounting policies and procedures across the organization
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and accounting standards, including ASC 606 (revenue recognition), ASC 842(leases), and other relevant pronouncements
- Coordinate with external auditors, manage audit readiness, and support SEC reporting where applicable
Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Lead, coach, and develop accounting staff at the client site, setting clear objectives and fostering a high-performance culture
- Embrace a mentorship mindset by sharing knowledge, offering guidance, and investing in the growth of junior team members; at Promentrs, developing others is just as important as delivering results
- Drive process improvement initiatives through coaching, training, and clear ownership of change management
What You Bring

- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills; you can earn trust quickly at all organizational levels and distill complex financial matters into clear, actionable language
- Highly adaptable, self-directed, and effective in ambiguous or rapidly changing environments
- Prior experience in public accounting, consulting, or multi-client professional services is strongly preferred
- Entrepreneurial mindset; you operate with integrity, take initiative, and lead without waiting to be told what to do
