About Whanganui

Whanganui is home to a thriving arts and culture scene, with renowned destinations such as Te Whare o Rehua Sarjeant Art Gallery, the Whanganui Regional Museum, striking street art, and the historic Royal Whanganui Opera House showcasing exceptional local, national, and international talent.

Enjoy family-friendly favourites like Kowhai Park, The Splash Centre, and Rotokawau Virginia Lake, along with high-quality schooling and accessible healthcare services.

Located on the beautiful Whanganui River, you can explore the Awa on a scenic cruise aboard the iconic Paddle Steamer Waimarie or wander through the lively Whanganui River Markets every Saturday morning. With multiple beaches, bush walks, and reserves, there are plenty of opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the outdoors.

Whanganui offers the best of both worlds — large enough to provide opportunities and amenities, yet small enough to retain a friendly, connected community feel.
