Mission of the role
To deliver accurate, timely, and compliant bookkeeping for a diverse portfolio of UK clients (VAT and non-VAT). Reporting to the Senior Accountant feeding into the Accounts Manager, this role ensures all financial records are consistently up-to-date, hitting critical deadlines while providing high-quality support to the wider accounting team.

Key outcomes in the first 6–12 months

• Outcome 1: Maintain Flawless Xero Records — Ensure all client transactions are fully recorded, allocated, and perfectly reconciled in Xero within target deadlines.
• Outcome 2: Build Client Relationships — Establish strong, trusting relationships with your client portfolio, ensuring smooth communication and the timely collection of required financial documents.
• Outcome 3: Support the Accounts Team — Seamlessly integrate with the UK team, reliably assisting the Senior Accountant and Accounting Manager to ensure all departmental targets and statutory deadlines are met.
• Outcome 4: Drive Bookkeeping Efficiency — Identify process bottlenecks and proactively implement smarter ways of working to increase efficiency and speed across your portfolio's bookkeeping workflows.

• E-commerce Expertise: Specific, demonstrable experience managing the complexities of e-commerce bookkeeping (e.g., handling payment gateways, multi-channel sales, inventory).
• Language Proficiency: Exceptional, grammatically correct written and spoken English (essential for an overseas hire managing direct UK client communications).
• Software: Strong proficiency in Xero.

Must-have attributes

• Meticulous Attention to Detail: Spots errors instantly and takes pride in 100% accurate data entry and reconciliations.
• Highly Organized & Deadline-Driven: Capable of juggling multiple clients at once without letting turnaround times slip.
• Proactive & Self-Motivated: Because this is an overseas role, they must be a self-starter who doesn't need to be micro-managed to get the work done.
• Adaptable: Quick to learn and comfortable switching gears between completely different industries (e.g., jumping from an e-commerce client to a construction client).
• Clear Communicator: Confident enough to ask the right questions when information is missing, and polite but firm when chasing clients for paperwork.

Behavioural fit is also important at Sleek, and we will be looking for candidates that have a proven track record of embodying the below attributes in their recent roles:

• Ownership: This shows reliability and helps build trust within the team. We move fast and need to know that everyone will see things through to completion and proactively help to get things back on track when challenges arise. Accountability is really important to us.
• Humility: There is so much we don't know. Humility allows for open-mindedness to feedback and a willingness to learn from others. It paves the way for collaboration and creates a positive work environment. It is a key ingredient of self awareness and emotional intelligence.
• Structured Thinking: Our business is complex with many layers (many services, many countries, many cultures). Regardless of whether you're more analytical or creative in nature, being able to show sound judgement is important to us. It ensures solutions are pragmatic and balance the needs of the organisation, team and customers.
• Attention to detail: You'll be managing multiple, complex workstreams from numerous stakeholders. It will be important for you to keep track of everything and notice when information is missing or inconsistent.
• Excellent listener and clear communicator: We have a variety of nationalities and for many people, English isn't their first language. For you to excel, you'll need to be present in your calls and make sure you properly receive and thoughtfully send messages to others in the business.

• TA Screening Call: A 30 minute call with our Talent Acquisition team
• Live Technical Assessment: A ~60–90 minute live skills test to assess your hands-on bookkeeping capability.
• Soft Skills Interview: A ~15-30 minute interview with the hiring team to evaluate real-world work scenarios against our core behavioural values.
• Reference Verification: Prior to final offer confirmation, we will conduct one professional reference check with your recent direct manager or supervisor. To keep the process moving smoothly, this step may be initiated during the final interview stages.
