Accessiway
ApplyRole: Backend Developer (Mid / Senior)
Location: Hybrid (Remote / Turin, Italy)
The Mission: A Digital World Without Barriers
At Accessiway, we aren’t just a SaaS company; we are a scale-up growing at supersonic speed with one ambitious goal: to make technology accessible to everyone, no ifs or buts. We believe that accessibility isn’t a checkbox: it’s how people experience the world.
As our Backend Developer, you won’t just write code, your work won't end up in a virtual drawer. You will power the core engines of digital accessibility, designing robust, scalable, and high-performing backend architectures that simplify and elevate the web experience for millions of users across the globe.
Real-World Impact: Your code directly transforms how people interact with technology, helping ensure products are usable and accessible to over 1.3 billion people worldwide.
A Rocking Team: Collaborate with passionate developers, designers, and product managers who value excellence, curiosity, and tackling complex engineering challenges together.
Autonomy & Trust: Want to experiment, innovate, or pivot strategies on the fly? Here, you can! Your ideas matter, and you’ll have the space, trust, and freedom to bring them to life.
Radical Inclusivity: We are an open, diverse, international team. We’re also pet-friendly so, yes, your dog is welcome in the office!
Work-Life Balance & Wellbeing: Enjoy a hybrid work model that respects your personal life and focus time, supplemented by regular team yoga and wellness sessions to keep you grounded.
Continuous Learning: Never stop growing! Access our internal training platforms to sharpen your skills, explore new technologies, and keep learning at your own pace.
Breakfast, Fresh Fruit & Competitive Pay: If you come to our office in Turin, we’ve got breakfast and fresh fruit to kickstart your day right (and coffee? It's always flowing!). Plus, we offer customized compensation that recognizes your experience, skill set, and drive to grow.
Taking full ownership of your role, you will participate in the end-to-end design and delivery of high-quality backend services, focusing on:
Backend Engineering: Building and maintaining Lambda functions, ECS-hosted services, and REST APIs behind API Gateway using TypeScript as your primary language—keeping systems reliable, observable, and easy to evolve.
Event-Driven Architecture: Designing asynchronous workflows with SNS and SQS to handle audit results, trigger notifications, and integrate with external services, mastering idempotency, retries, and failure modes.
Container & Cloud Workloads: Managing Docker containers and deploying services via ECS/ECR, configuring task definitions, and overseeing image lifecycles under real-world traffic.
Data & Storage Management: Navigating smoothly between Aurora PostgreSQL and DynamoDB, leading schema design, migrations, query optimization, and knowing exactly when to leverage relational vs. NoSQL paradigms.
Infrastructure Evolution: Contributing to our AWS CDK stacks (TypeScript) as you settle in, growing your skills in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) alongside core development.
3+ years of backend experience: Proven track record of shipping production-ready Node.js services and understanding what reliable, maintainable backend systems require.
Fluent TypeScript (server-side): Writing clean, well-typed async code, maintaining architecture sanity, and keeping codebases scalable as they grow.
AWS Expertise: Hands-on experience with core cloud services (Lambda, SQS/SNS, ECS, API Gateway, RDS/DynamoDB).
Solid Database Foundations: Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning.
Comfort with Complexity: Energized by technical challenges—distributed systems, async messaging, and complex integrations don't intimidate you.
Ownership Mindset: Proactive attitude to catch problems before they turn into fires, get things done, and take pride in what you ship.
Work eligibility: As this is a fully remote position, we can only employ candidates in countries where we have a legal entity. For this role, that means we can consider candidates who are based in and already legally authorised to work in one of the following countries: Italy, France, Germany, Austria, Spain or Portugal. We're not able to provide visa sponsorship or relocation for this role.
Extra Bonus Points if:
You are curious about cloud infrastructure and eager to expand into Infrastructure as Code using AWS CDK in TypeScript.
You have hands-on experience or familiarity with accessibility testing tools (such as Lighthouse or Axe).
