AUTOMATION ENGINEER
Location: Burlington, VT (Hybrid)
Employment Type: Full-time
WHO WE ARE
Open Approach is a values-driven, client-focused IT services company based in Burlington, Vermont. We deliver exceptional managed technology and phenomenal client support to organizations across New England and beyond. We are a fast-growing Managed Services Provider (MSP) delivering secure, compliant IT solutions to clients in regulated industries. Our team partners with businesses to design and implement IT, cybersecurity, and compliance frameworks that meet strict standards such as NIST, DFARS, and CMMC.
We earn our clients’ business every month by staying relentlessly focused on their success. From the very first interaction to ongoing evolution, we aim to provide seamless experiences grounded in understanding, integrity, and practical solutions. We believe in making thoughtful, informed decisions and creating a lasting impact instead of quick fixes. This translates into long-term relationships with our clients that are rewarding on many levels.
At our core, we value equity, humility, excellence, accountability, innovation, and openness. These guide everything we do, from how we collaborate internally to how we support clients through complex technical challenges.
We are continually refining our team, enhancing our capabilities, and investing in talent to drive forward meaningful change. We embrace candid feedback, own our outcomes, and strive to improve every day. If that sounds like the kind of company you want to grow with, we would love to hear from you.
THE ROLE
We are seeking an Automation Engineer to define and lead our push deeper into automation across our Managed Services Provider (MSP) organization. This role sits at the intersection of AI/ML, traditional scripting, and IT operations - building intelligent systems that improve how we run our business and deliver outcomes for clients, while balancing the needs of probabilistic and deterministic systems.
You will automate internal workflows and service delivery processes and, increasingly, design AI-driven solutions that let us operate at scale with minimal manual intervention. It is a high-impact role that will directly shape our service quality, margin, scalability, and client experience.
And feel free to show us what you're working on! Any links to your GitHub, scripts, or other coding projects you’ve written are always reviewed.
WHO YOU ARE
- Curious and self-directed. You follow threads, read documentation nobody assigned you, and figure things out before asking for help. Large language models, agentic workflows, and intelligent tooling are practical levers to you, not buzzwords.
- Collaborative beyond being easy to work with. You pull people in and bring them along, and you care whether the people around what you built can actually understand it. You teach even when the job description does not say to.
- Organized underneath all of it. You hold multiple threads without dropping them, communicate when things shift, and bring your own structure to a chaotic environment rather than waiting for one to appear.
- Clear on the difference between interesting and useful, and disciplined enough to stay on the right side of that line even when things are moving fast.
